not only is this book visually beautiful but it was beautifully written too. i really enjoyed the writing style and i loved how the illustrations throughout the book flowed with the story.
though i did enjoy the story, i didn’t get that wow feeling when i finished the book. i just feel like something was missing or i missed something that everyone else loved. i wish we had more time getting to know Olivia and her origin as i did really like her as a character.
Gallant was my first V.E. Schwab and it will definitely not be my last as i really did love her writing style.

I enjoyed the book and got through it quite quickly, I did feel like there could have been more development or world building to pull you in. It was an interesting setting but fell a little flat for me.

Not as great as I expected from Victoria. The audiobook version just made me think about 'A Darker Shade of Magic' and couldn't really see this as a standalone. It felt like a side quest from ADSOM. Nevertheless creative and original story about an orphaned girl searching for her identity and where she belongs. The fact that she signs, actually, finally made me look up signing lessons and guess what? At 5 minutes from my house there's a curriculum of 3 years available! :o I'm signing up in May!
