Real characters, real issues, and some extra abilities to boot. Readers will fall for Hope and Micah, but for different reasons, and celebrate their story that is different from anything I've read before. Great start to a series.

*I received and eCopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Mythology was one of the best YA paranormal books I’ve read in a long time. It truly breaks the mold many YA novels fall neatly into. Hope and Micah are not your normal teens. Hope has the unique gift to see people’s worst memories whether she wants to or not. Micah, kind and gentle, is destined to become everything he is not. As if high school isn’t stressful enough, Hope and Micah are forced to deal with much more than dances, first kisses, and awkward first dates. Instead they must face the overwhelming truth that they are part of a world filled with two ancient races destined to fight one another. But not everything or everyone is what they seem on the surface and with the help of their mentor, Jonathan, Micah and Hope must fight for their survival and their love.
I loved every single character in this book. I even loved the characters I was supposed to hate. Each individual character had their own unique voice and it was refreshing to see such three-dimensional personalities. Hope was a YA heroine I could honestly applaud. She was smart and able and not once did I feel that she was the damsel in distress that always needed to be saved. There were times she did really rash and somewhat stupid things but it was always for the common good (or at least what she believed was the common good). She not only strived to protect Micah but all the people she loved. I am more than excited to see what is in store for Hope in Mythology: The Wicked after the ending of Mythology.

Now, I love me some bad boys. I am not going to lie about that little fact but to be honest; I also loved the sweet and gentle boys as well. Micah is so kind and good-hearted. It was a pleasant surprise to see a YA MC who was generally a nice guy and got the girl. I think it’s great for young adults to see that there are nice guys out there and that these guys are worth the time, as well. Micah isn’t without his flaws but he’s a symbol of our ability to be something more than we believe we are destined to be. He’s a symbol of hope that despite our flaws we can be good.

Two of my favorite minor characters are Davis and Jonathan. Both provide support and love to our MC’s but also at times, comedic relief. It’s nice to see a brother-sister dynamic that is full of love and easy banter rather than rivalry and disdain. I could also relate with Hope’s relationship with her more adult brother since I have a similar dynamic with my own brother. As for Jonathan, he was fantastic. His role was a bit Giles-esque (Buffy reference for those of you who haven’t seen it), fitting into a mentor role with ease and grace. He was also hilarious with his less-than-modern speech patterns and disdain for technology.

The actual plot of Mythology had me glued to the pages from the very beginning. The story initiated and ended with action. However, the action wasn’t overdone and all was necessary to make one cohesive story. I was never bored and I found myself itching to pick it back up again when I was forced to deal with the real world, the horror! Helen Boswell writes a smart story, full of a range of emotion and depth. I cannot wait to start reading the second installment in the Mythology series! I highly recommend this book to YA PNR lovers.

What I loved:
I really enjoyed this. It's unlike any other mythology inspired book I've read because it takes into account free will in addition to the good and evil that resides in all of us. The detailed world building makes you feel as if you've just stepped into the story and Hope and Micah are both strong, well developed characters. They both have interesting abilities that when combined, add an extra level of uniqueness to the storyline. I'm really looking forward to seeing where their journey takes them next!

I usually like my book boys tall, dark and snarkilicious but occasionally a blond will sneak in. *coughs* Micah *coughs* ;D

What left me wanting: More Micah please. *bats eyelashes*

Final verdict: Refreshing and unique take on not just mythology but also how we view good and evil.

Where do I start with this review? First off I have to say that I absolutely LOVED this book!!!! Within the first few chapters the author already has you connecting with the characters. Later on when you learn more about what Hope has been through, I can kinda relate to her situation very well. Now Micah, now that is one male character that I wish was real! He is so damn sweet, and you can tell that he really does love Hope.

This book kept me on my toes the whole time, I could not wait to get to the next page to find out what happens next. I will recommend this book to all of my friends!

Counting down until I can read the next book!!!!

No lie, I loved this book cover to cover. From the characters to the story to the end, it was perfect.

Micah is so flipping adorable. I've never crushed on a teenage character quite so fast. Really, it was kind of creepy the feelings I had. I just wanted to go back to my 17 year old self and snuggle right up to him. And even though Hope is technically the MC, I focused on Micah - probably too much. And I got a little jealous. See? Creepy stalker girl, right here.

But in her defense, Hope is real. She hasn't had a cake-walk life, but she still tries to see the best in people. If anyone could get Micah through the change, it would be her. And HOLY CRAP she isn't an idiot. That is something that drives me nuts in YA, and many Paranormal Books in general; why the heroine has to be a dumb-ass until it really counts is beyond me. But Hope, while not always making the best decisions, actually has reasons for choosing the things she does. It's a miracle.

Boswell does a great job giving you enough information to be able to follow along without making it feel like an info dump. The only times I felt lost were when Hope and Micah were feeling lost. And it made me crazy. In a good way.

With the way it ended, I am certainly looking forward to what happens next. No cliffhanger (YAY) but there was certainly enough left open-ended for a lot more story. And Micah, if you ever get tired of Hope, email me. ;-)

Mythology was an interesting read. It has all these layers. And each layer just gets better and better. The story kind of just evolves and grows until it takes on a life of its own. It's been a while since I have read a book over 400 pages, and I loved the length of Mythology. It felt like there was actual meat to the story. I like short books because I can read them quickly- it's like instant gratification, but I really love longer books that I get to savor and enjoy like this one too.

Hope and Micah are the main players in this story. Then there are a few minor characters thrown in like Johnathan (who I totally loved!). I really liked Hope. But honestly, she has an awful gift. It is so much of a burden for her. She can see people's darkest moments and I can't imagine that would be easy for anyone to carry around with them. But she handles it all really well. I am really impressed with the strength that she shows in Mythology. She is a tough little cookie, and oh so loyal to the people that she cares about. I liked that about her.

Micah is the type of guy that I can see being swoon worthy for almost everyone that reads this book. He is hot, and nice and good to Hope, but there is just something about him. I liked him, I just wasn't jumping up and down with giddiness at the thought of him. I can't even really tell what was slightly offputting for me. I think it was that I always thought he was hiding something. (and yes, I know that he was in fact hiding something, but it just seemed like more than that to me.) I didn't know if I could fully trust him, but I think that was just my hang up. I do think Micah is a great guy and a really cool character that goes through a lot of great growth in the story. I think a ton of people will love him, something didn't just fully click for me. I liked him but I can't throw the big L word around just yet. Johnathan on the other hand just seemed so adorable to me. I can't wait to see more of him (hopefully) in the next book!

Mythology has a lot going on. There are guardians and demons and gods and tons of conflict. I liked how everything was described. Helen Boswell's writing is great. This is not a typical mythology book, it is more of an angels and demons kind of story. I had lots of questions while I was reading and some of them got answered but I am looking for even more answers in the next book. And you better believe I will be reading the next book! I can't wait.

Some bits were a bit slow but it's cool to see a new take on angels and demons. Definitely feels like there is going to be way more to this story later.
