It’s very rare that a thriller keeps me gripped all the way through and keeps me guessing right until the end. I did not see the final twist coming at all and I was SHOOK.

okay i thought i had it all figured out… i was mostly wrong lol
but seriously couldn’t stop thinking about this book while i was doing literally anything else. and i really thought i had it down!! to be fair to me i was definitely connecting some dots but the dots that needed to be connected were completely different lol
in my opinion, i don’t feel like we were given enough evidence to figure out who the correct killer was, especially since a lot of the damning proofs came towards the very end of the story.
anyways loved it love a mystery always

I did it, I guessed the killer near the beginning! After reading Rock Paper Scissors I knew to have my guard up… I finished this book quickly and found it pretty gripping. I’m not sure exactly how I feel about this book however. I was invested in the main characters, but the ending fell flat. I suppose that’s common in these types of thrillers.
It was disappointing that horrific sexual abuse of minors was such a pivotal plot point, and the biggest victim of all didn’t get any justice. In fact she suffers one of the worst fates. I tend to find the “hehe big twist, I’m the killer and I got away with it” ending to be irritating. Seems like the author is trying to pass off laziness as nihilism or something. Isn’t that how most modern thrillers have been ending?

This was a great twisty domestic style thriller!

My second read from this author and my favourite so far. The book started slightly slow for me, but once we got 70/80 pages in I was intrigued to see what was going on.

The story continues at a fast pace and truly has you guessing who to blame for the crimes. What I was not expecting was the actual reveal!

The author did a great job of directing the blame to a certain character, then revealing we were totally looking at the wrong person at the very end. It was smartly weaved into the reveal and truly unexpected.

  • Audiobook is the best choice; Richard Armitage is an A+ narrator
  • Two narrators were previously married
  • Murderer chapters felt very female coded from the beginning
  • Teenage girls are evil?
    • Making someone else drink your pee
  • Listened mostly when cleaning the bathroom and playing Tears of the Kingdom
  • Are small town’s sex webs this tangled?
  • Did we really have to go there with the cat fur coats?
  • Went from 22% to 100% in a single day! Couldn’t wait to hear what was next!
  • Lol the narrator was ALSO the murderer u g h
  • EL OH EL WAIT NO IT WAS THE MOM
    • I had this theory when the mom was in the woods “wandering around”

This is my favorite Alice Feeney out of the 6 published so far. It does not hurt that the audiobook readers are Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage. Even the twists have twists. This is also probably the most trigger-warning-y of all. If you have a trigger, it's probably in there.

I probably wouldn’t have finished this book if it wasn’t for a book club. It was way too gory and vulgar and needed so many content warnings I did not get before reading it. I could see why people enjoy this book but it just wasn’t for me and this was also the first thriller I have ever read. I ended up guessing the killer because none of the other options made sense to me, even though the real killer also didn’t seem plausible.
