Alice Feeney sure knows how to write a thriller that keeps you guessing to the very last page. I was hooked on this book and it left me breathless a couple times from the intensity of the suspense.

I found the beginning to be frustrating and slow (honestly, maybe i was confused trying to follow threads?). After around page 130 (almost halfway) I found myself just wanting answers to how this tale would end. I was thankful for the short chapters. I did find the ending to be incredibly well written and satisfying, overall. Lastly, I pulled some decent quotes from this book.
The death in this book is shocking.

The ending was dark and twisty right until the last page. I like that some characters turned out to be more than they first seem.

But I found that up until about half way through the book I wasn’t gripped. I think “tension” was added at bits it shouldn’t have in the first half; we are just getting to know the characters. But after this point i found myself invested and wondering… who killed them?

Some of the things in this book were sickening. I really wish the book had killed off more characters than it did, honestly (a lot of male characters that were happy to take advantage of young girls, mainly.) A lot of it was disturbing for so, so many reasons, and not in a good way. In a large way, everyone in the book is a villain in some form. You're not sad when any of them die other than the last two. To a point, the real villains are oddly so villainous they aren't even believable. (Like the fur coat thing was Cruella level)

I did guess who the killer was almost the first time meeting them. I kept suspecting it at certain points but the book kept me second guessing myself until the end. Did it surprise me? Yes. Did I think it was believable... ish. Did I like 90% of what happened in the book? No. Did I like the mystery? I'm honestly not sure since I like to be surprised but I'm not sure I liked these surprises.

I really enjoyed trying to guess what was going on, and I was shocked by the ending.
Yes, Feeney's writing in this one is a bit clunky, but I'm used to her writing and honestly didn't even notice until other people pointed it out. The story was easy to follow and I loved the unreliable narration.
I'm getting tired of the "parent with dementia is actually fine but crazy" trope. I wish it was Priya all along, I would not have seen that coming.
