this was definitely entertaining, loved the worldbuilding. the middle suffered a bit from spinning its wheels until it could get to the reveals at the end, but whatever the end was fun. spoiler but a character is detransitioned against their will and I felt like the horror of that was a little underplayed ajknsfd
This was a really slick and stylish sci-fi/fantasy read. I thought the braided storytelling was particularly effective here and I appreciated the careful plotting and pacing. The world building was efficient and effective. I found myself equally drawn into the different central characters and the reveals at the end were compelling. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

i have never been so mad at a plot twist in my life. if you’re gonna do a scifi twist on the “this person was a hallucination/split personality the entire time” trope, maybe just fucking don’t. overall, there were great ideas, but just a bad/lackluster execution. sad because there were many diverse characters and the hiro/saito ren plot twist made me gasp out loud.

Wow?? I loved this. The plot twist made me set the book down for a moment to process. SO unexpected but so so good. Please read this. It was great.
2.5 stars. It was just slightly better than ok to keep me reading to the end. Didn't really care for the world. One half of the characters just felt distant, but the other half I did like. I won't be reading the other 2 in the trilogy.
