I really like this book and it’s about a new world of gods, the Norse gods, and I think that’s an interesting concept because we’ve already had the Greek, the Roman, the Egyptian and now the Norse, and of course everything is in the same universe. First of all, I really liked the general writing style again. It makes you get through the book quickly and also Magnus Chase as a character is very interestingly written. He has this sarcastic sense of humor and he’s definitely older than Percy or Sadie and Carter in their first books, and at the same time he’s also been living on the streets as a homeless person for two years, so his way of thinking is a bit different, and I still thought the whole concept was cool that the Norse gods are a bit different than the other ones. The Norse ones are all anticipating their ending, and the other gods were always afraid of or wanted to prevent a possible ending, but in this book everyone present is actually waiting for the end. The only thing I would criticize is the fast ending, but I know it’s the start of an amazing story so I can’t wait for more!

I also thought it was cool that the direct connection with Annabeth — that Magnus is her cousin — was made. What also was definitely crazy: Magnus simply dies in the first 50 pages of his own book and remains dead at the end, which I find quite interesting — that he did not choose to be reborn or to come back to earth. I also thought it was cool that he is not a descendant of a very important strong god but of a god of peace, and how it’s a direct contrast to the whole war. I really liked all the characters and it was fun reading about them. Their backstories were also well integrated into the story. Somehow the Norse gods like Odin and Thor are very different from, for example, Zeus. He is always very serious about his task, and the others, you know, are actually just ready for the end of the world to come for them. Like Magnus, I wonder how you can’t go crazy, knowing that it’s almost time, that they’ll die at some point, and not trying to prevent it. I’m curious to see what kind of bigger role Loki will play since he is the dad of Sam and for now also pulls the strings in the background, but you don’t know exactly what he actually wants. I also thought it was cool that Thor said that he misses him and so on. I hope that their relationship will be explained a bit further in the next books! And hopefully more of Annabeth and the others!

It took me a while to finish, but I absolutely LOVE this book. It was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad they recommended it. I was honestly very surprised by

Magnus dying only a few chapters in

in the best way possible, it was not the story I was expecting. I never got into Percy Jackson, but I’ve fallen in love with these characters and this story. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I do wish wolves weren’t portrayed as so evil though, as they really aren’t monsters in real life.
