moments of brilliance and brave for Spiegelman's sturdy form and lack of flourish...but beyond that i find very little to appreciate...feels novel in the grand scheme of sequential art but not literature, which is closer to what it is...comics for those who don't read comics?? animal motif kinda disagreeable too...choices of when to be objective and when to make a comment, kinda questionable

i find the balance of perspectives, modes, central purposes...muddled and frustratingly indecisive...the most memorable and influential bits are Art's woe-is-me peeks behind the curtain, and it's difficult to appreciate those knowing how many significantly less compelling artists would rise to prominence in the medium doing essentially the same thing
