Read this initially in college. Gripping and emotional story showing not only the atrocities of the Holocaust but the lasting survivors guilt that plagued generations after.

Maus is an impactful and vividly real story about the experience of WII from one man's perspective and recounts all the details relayed to his son, the artist. I had to put this book down midway through for a mental health break, but quickly picked it back up. While utterly real and with no punches pulled, it is critical to understand and see these perspectives and the traumas endured during this time.

Mucho de este libro me habla personalmente. Nunca viví lo que vivió Vladek, pero me hace sentirme conectado de una forma muy profunda con los personajes. Qué historia tan humana, tan especial.

I wish I had read this book earlier, I had an idea built up in my head of what I thought the book would be. I enjoyed the framing of the story as Art visiting his dad and getting parts of the story each visit; it's a really good way to show how the war and Holocaust affects Vladek to this day. It's overall a pretty depressing snapshot of how the Holocaust pretty much ruined this family and heavily affects the generation who didn't even live through the horrors. It's a very heavy topic to begin with, and the story doesn't shy away from showing that to the reader.

This is exceptionally well done, and I can see why it won a Pulitzer. Spiegelman tells his family's story of surviving the Holocaust in an honest and compelling way. I was particularly struck by the way he included his own struggles coming to terms with the story and his relationship with his father. I read this book because I saw it on a list of banned books.
