I liked the art work but I felt the story rushed to the ending.

A truly heartwrenching - but beautiful - piece of art. The story is incredibly touching, the artwork is beautiful - with a special note for the incredible use of colour... I personally had to re-read it a second time as soon as I finished it, because I really needed the experience to last longer.

Giving this a 3.70 stars!

It's good, but I wasn't completely blown away. I was just hoping something more from the ending and how the plot was coming to its final sentences.

A lot of people seem to like this book, and I do too. The drawing was excellent, the images capture the exact emotions of what the reader must feel when coming across the panels. This was my first ever LGBT read, cause even if I read I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson, it wasn't as blunt and eye-opening as this.

Of course I am not naive. I graduated from an exclusive school so I am very close to the LGBT culture. I've never seen such strong desire as much as Clementine & Emma shared towards each other. I have learned that love does come in different sizes, gender, age, etc. It's better to follow whatever's in your heart than imprison yourself with the norms and standards of society. Yes, I am a Christian, but I have certain opinions and beliefs that doesn't really go with it & you know what? That's okay; my opinions are not a measurement of my faith. But let's not take this too far, I mean it's a book review afterall.

So, in conclusion, it wasn't as heartbreaking as I hoped it will be. But one thing is for sure, someday I wish to find someone as special as Emma, whether it be a guy or a girl; and to experience a love as unwavering as theirs.

yeah... no.

I've been trying and trying to write out my review for this, but it's just not happening; I can't put my finger on what it is exactly i disliked. for starters, I think it is partly ruined by the fact the film is now accepted as The One Singular Lesbian Experience (and also the fact that the film is weird and not that good) and so, despite how amazing this comic may be, i could never actually fully enjoy it. that being said, i did much prefer the ending to the film, whereas this ending was so ?????? also, the whole age thing just didn't sit well with me... like i know four years or whatever isn't that much but adele was still in school! she was 15! no thanks.

okay so i think the big thing is that as a lesbian i expected this to be One Big Relatable Experience, and for the most part, it just wasn't - but that's okay! not everything has to apply to me, i think it's just the way it's been targeted and marketed.

sorry this review has been awful and rambley, but tbh i just didn't think this comic was that good. like it's only due to its fame that it's been worth my haphazard attempts at a review, but in summary: there are many several better lesbian narratives out there. this one's not worth it really. go find the others.
