I found this to be a charming read. Nothing special except the way she writes about ordinary people so that you feel you know them and see them so clearly that you can’t help but feel something for them.
This is well written but feels divorced from the things that are important and pressing right now.
I choose this after listening to an interview with Liane Moriarty. She mentioned she read a lot of Anne Tyler, I see why. I enjoyed the ordinary-ness of this novel, and the character development. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another book by Anne Tyler.
A slim novel, both in size and scope. Predicable ending without engaging characters. I've read some Tyler that I enjoyed, but not this one.
I'm not sure I really got this book, but it was short and engaging.
A typical Anne Tyler comfort read. With everything wrong that is going on in the world right now, the story of Micah and his chaotic, loving family is a balm for the soul.
This book was about a very ordinary man, Micah, and his daily life. There was no thrilling plot or page turning necessity. But, it was a nice snapshot of his every day life. He has a girlfriend named Cass, a job as the Tech Hermit helping people with their computers and we see him drive around Baltimore to help people with this. One day, a younger boy named Brink shows up at his door and we learn a little more about Micah's background. And by the end, Micah learns a little more about his own character.
This was a really fun read. The characters were quite likeable and I feel like I knew them well - that special kind of "it's kitchen day" neurosis is charming to me. I loved the family relationships and watching Micah learn and grow. I loved his funny remarks about helping people with their computer problems - and he reminded me a bit of my little brother as he did that. A nice story.
I always love Anne Tyler and her characters. The story and resolution was a little slim fit me but it will still be memorable. I just loved Micah's interactions with everyone.
