This is a little slice-of-life short novel about a man who has gone nowhere in his life and is proceeding to do more nothing. It is an utterly readable book with well-drawn characters.

Normally books about nothing don't interest me, but this had such finely drawn characters and was so wonderfully written that, when I got two-thirds of the way through and figured nothing would happen (and I was right), it really didn't bother me.

This is a great short book for anyone who has someone in their life that they suspect is neurodivergent rather than completely selfish! The one in my life struggles with nuance in so many ways & as is typical tends first to be a very stubborn, picked on child when confronted with insensitivity or in not keeping their word. When I read Micah’s responses to his girlfriend’s concerns, I had to laugh because making little jokes is exactly how my loved one handles other’s emotions. The light bulb does come on but we usually have to wait for a couple of days. The knee-jerk tendency to victimhood does nothing for the moment. But it’s hard to care for someone who is overly sensitive yet has little empathy. I must make a caution here, this character is not a narcissist - that would require him to have an awareness of what he’s doing & a desire to hurt back. So if you’re looking for a short book that will help you understand such a person, Ann Tyler’s Micah is your guy! I loved this book but have to admit it was the perfect length.

Reminds me of the character in a Patchwork planet

I really loved this book. I was reminded of The Accidental Tourist in all the best ways.

Very pleasant read about a lonely man. Really enjoyed it.

Absolutely loved this ... except for the end. I'm not sure it felt true to the character? But everything before that was lovely.

This is a slow and steady book with less than 200 pages. Micha Mortimore lives in a well crafted and organized life. His driving remind me of myself, the Traffic God watches me. Micha's life is interrupted by a teenage boy who comes to meet him, and Micha's woman friend breaks up with him. Anne Tyler's writing is calming. She writes about everyday people and what goes on in their lives, making it interesting, and I see traits of myself in each character. This was a book I thoroughly enjoyed.

I put this NetGalley ARC on my Kindle, and I have "Time Left in Book" turned off (always), and I had no idea this book was quite short (only 192 pages). So it was funny when it just. Ended. I exclaimed WHAT!?!? That's it?! aloud. I had no idea I was anywhere near the end. I thought we were just getting started. Well, dang, I guess that's all there is then. *shrug*
