Anne Tyler is one of my favourite writers and I’ve read every book she’s published (this is her twenty-third). It’s a gorgeous character study of a 40-something man stuck in his own life. I loved Micah Mortimer and his seemingly quiet life that Tyler bursts open with humanity and love. Such a beautifully light touch from Tyler here.

It was quite an interesting read. Essentially, how difficult it is to realise we have a blind spot especially about things that matter the most,  and how easy it is to fall into a pattern of behaviour without realising it.

It was ok. Kind of a modern, sad protagonist, reminded me of Confederacy of Dunces. Just overall hard to empathize and get through.

3.5 stars. A refreshingly light read.

A soothing balm for the soul - Anne Tyler gently takes us through the life of Micah. He has lots of sisters and grew up in a loud, chaotic household. As an adult he likes routines and peace and quiet. However one can get set in ones ways and miss out.

I adore the descriptions of sibling relationships, how Micah deals with a young adult who turns up on his doorstep and how he changes his view on how his life has panned out. Perfect for my current frame of mind. A book by Anne Tyler is always something to look forward to, and this certainly delivers.
