It's both a satire of the absurdity of a post-revolution Soviet system in which even a dog could get a high-level role in government but equally that of the absurdly rich who refuse to share their wealth.

A quick, fun read but I'm unsure if I understood everything from it!

This was something else!
A injured, stray dog is befriended by a professor with the intention of using it in a scientific experiment. Philip Philipovich looks after the dog, feeding him and treating him like his pet, then he operates on this poor stray transplanting a deceased man's testicles and pituitary gland into the canine. Madness ensues.
It was so different from anything that I have read.

read the world's most terrible translation of this wonderful book. even the russian adapted film made during the USSR did it more justice. will eventually try to find a better translation.
