Like with all the Sherlock novels, I enjoyed this but didn't love it. I did really like the flashbacks to the actual Valley of Fear and how that part of the plot played out. The addition of Moriarty felt a bit clumsy, but I am exited to read more about him in other novels

This is my favorite novel of the four, which is a far cry from how many people love Hound. It was the only novel to hold my rapt attention and keep me going until the bitter end, even with 40% of the narrative driven by flashback. Amazing!
Doyle's final full-length novel to feature Holmes falls far short of the standard of Hound of the Baskervilles - indeed, in some respects it's a reversion to the more rudimentary structure of A Study In Scarlet, but with added contradictions and inconsistencies.
