I did enjoy this but the ending felt a bit abrupt
Spoiler
we've spent 5 books and literally thousands of pages building the relationship up between Simon and Meg and we get like 3 pages! I wouldn't mind if the next book was focusing on them again but it look like the next might be about a new set of characters- I hope that we still see a lot of the Lakeside characters making appearances thought
Wow. I read other reviews and was worried. They talked about it being boring - have they even read the others? - this was a perfect continuation of the story. I am so sad that this was the last one. It was a great ride, thank you Ms. Bishop!
This is my favorite book in the series.
It's my favorite for a number of reasons, the confirmation that Simon and Meg belong together is only one of them. I think what I love, is how we get to see, firsthand, how one bad personality can disrupt a good group of people. And how the group has to work together, human and other, to protect the pack. Until this point, we've seen them work together as two separate packs, but I feel like in this book we get to see them working as one.
Twyla and Skippy also have some really wonderful moments in this book. I love them and I hope they continue to have this Grandma/Grandson relationship. So adorable.
Kowalski really comes into his own in this book too. I adore him. I feel like he is a good sweet person like Monty, but he also has the potential to be like Burke, and that's a great combination. I would love to see more of him in the future, even just a short story.
I can't talk about everything I love, because a lot of it is spoilers, but one last high point. Henry yelling at the elders gives me life.

I loved it so much and I didn't want it to be over. I still don't. This volume, the last one about Meg and Simon (I almost could cry over it), is honestly slower than the previous ones, but I didn't mind. The slow, quiet start was a perfect setting for the apotheosis of the plot. Said plot was more character-oriented than te others, something I really appreciated. I loved discovering the world of this story, but the characters are the thing that really marked me.
I don't want this book to end and I mourn the fact that the summary on GoodReads for the next book is taking us away from the Lakeside pack....
A decent book, and overall a good series.
I just felt like the stakes started out super-high in the first book, and the tension was RIDICULOUS, and then like... she needed to scale back? So that instead of the Others wreaking their (justified) havoc on the world thanks to stupid hoomans, it (d)evolved into a nice little survival story. Which is totally fine, bc I ship Meg/Simon all over the place.
But why did Cyrus James Montgomery need to be the final boss, when the Elders were there? And also, his character was simultaneously scary and a moron. How is that possible, in this universe??
I still want all the stories about Ms Twyla and Nathan and Tess and Sam and the Elementals (sidenote: how did THEY not come into play the second Meg was in trouble??) and the Crowgard. I was disappointed after a fashion but I still love these characters.

Every review of the books in this series I ponder how much further can the uprisings go before the world itself seems to collapse. As if responding to this the scale of Etched in Bone and the protagonists have been slimmed down to a single dissenter who does a surprisingly good job of shaking things up.
I quite enjoyed this series when it first started, but can't help thinking where on earth it could go next.

Wish there were more stories to read about Meg, Simon and the rest of their pack
