I want to start with I love all the other books in this series. They are not fast paced action books like I've read in the past. However the characters and their stories really make it worth while to stick with it. That is the reason there are two stars and not one.

First we have Monty's brother Jimmy. He has no redeeming qualities at all. He uses everyone around him and in general is just a despicable human being. It makes no sense how he and Monty could be from the same family and end up so different but I could have over looked that.

Next we have Monty's sister who starts out as a overall good character but someone who is easily forgettable compared to the other available personalities. She then turns into someone who is useless. Jimmy shows up and she turns into a lying, stealing, shell of a person because as a child he called her trash and treated her badly? Something her family tried to shield her from but apparently not well enough if she turns into a dysfunctional mess every time he shows up. Seems more like toxic on/off again relationship between exes and not brother and sister.
The worst of it though is her mother is such a strong, fierce character and yet her daughter is written to be a spineless individual. Again... HOW ARE THESE PEOPLE ALL FROM THE SAME FAMILY??

Then we have the issue of the slow burn love between Simon and Meg. It was never going to be a sex filled erotic novel but come on we deserve a little more than just a kiss after waiting for 5 books for these two to figure out they are in love. I mean Monty had to tell Simon it was love he was feeling. Right after that Simon who talks over just about everything with Vlad, Tess or Henry just goes oh ok guess so and goes for it. The whole thing seemed like an after thought in the end.

Besides that we have so many unfinished stories and characters. Instead of finishing out with one more book to give us a complete ended to the characters we have fallen in love with over this series we instead jump into a whole new spin off series with characters we never even heard of! Vlad, Tess, Henry, Monty, Twyla, Jean and so, so, sooooo many others deserve better.

In the end the book wasn't worth the time put in and I wish I would have stopped at Marked in Flesh.

4 STARS instead of the original 5. Still enjoyable but not quite there yet for me anymore.

I just don't know why I kept reading these. I enjoyed the first book around the time it came out, then tried the second when that one was released but bounced hard off of it. Then I got bored and decided to try again, and here I am with the entire series (plus one other) behind me, and I'm just??? The writing style was very simple, and it was really easy to turn my brain off -- and yeah, I wanted to turn my brain off -- and keep plowing on from one book to the next. The characters also weren't very well developed and were almost all either good or bad with nothing in between, but...I just kept going. And going...

Unfortunately a bit disappointing

It was just very dull at times. I feel like the series could've been finished after the 4th book.

Rating is more like 3.5. Beautiful writing, like always, and I enjoyed the story and the humor, but I felt like the ending was a bit rushed and the storyline was not finished. I wanted to hear more about what happened to all the characters.

#5 Monty's brother turns up, Meg kidnapped
Fabulous, incredible, amazing, read in one sitting, love the sense of humour not-wolf and the elders bring

What a great series and world this is!

Im so sad this series is over.
I need more closure. Curse you Anne Bishop for getting me everytime
