The family of characters are all deeply flawed, but also relatable once you have their complete picture. As someone who is not super well-connected to their Middle Eastern roots, it was really wonderful to get a sense of the atmosphere of Beirut, Damascus, and Palestine and its thoughtful approach to the history and politics of the region. I think there are parts of the story that were hurt by the shifting perspective, but overall, I found myself so invested in their dynamic and their story.
