Recently I've been trying to make my reviews sound more professional, but for this book I'm completely ignoring that.
THE LORE???? THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?????? THE BACKSTORIES???
Anyway, I'm giving this book 5 stars on here plus an extra 6th star because nostalgia. And of course an extra star because of Baba Yaga's spray bottle. Always remember folks: You are a dark sorceress. Don't be a wet cat.

Pros: an author I enjoy, interesting social commentary if you are old enough to read between the lines, and a nice alternative to all things "Monster High". These girls are kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and realistic. Cons: Well, Mattel OWNS the copyright. It's a merchandising machine. One I can live with, though. We'll be picking up the sequels from the library! :)

I've got very mixed feelings about this book. I liked a lot of things but I've also disliked a lot of things and one of them is how the ending left me with feeling not much had actually happened or progressed. It's kind of like you have to read the next book to find out what's actually meant to happen but it should have been part of this story... so more like a 200 page long introduction to the real story. That said I'm very unsure if I want to give the sequel a shot.

I did like the whole bunch of fairy tale characters or rather their children and I absolutely loved all the fairy-tale references and pop-culture/fairy tale speech twists. They were truly awesome. The concept of the story is also very interesting and most of the characters are very likeable. I liked the psychoanalysis for Apple, how she longs for her secure story because she is afraid of the unknown. Very beautifully done, although I can't believe just how naive Apple is (or how selfish) in not seeing Raven's dilemma at all. It's a bit much me, me, me from the kind perfect Apple.

Now I didn't like the plot holes (?) regarding how the whole thing actually works. So, Snow White's daughter will be Snow White and Prince Charming's son Prince Charming... so from the second generation Snow White gets together with her brother? It was briefly touched upon by Apple and Raven with the whole stepmother conversation so I have hope that this is not a plot hole but will be explained (sadly not in this book). It had the whole premise lacking in logic which annoyed me.

The only thing I found truly bad about the book was Maddie's talks with the narrator. I don't know if that was supposed to be a breaking the fourth wall moment, but it felt very staged and clumsy.

This book was tons of fun. A little over the top sometimes, but definitely worth a read.

This book takes the children of the original fairy tale characters: snow white, prince charming, the mad hatter, the evil queen etc. and shows us an idea of what high school would be like in this world. The students have a signing day where they must sign the story of their parents and walk the story in their parents paths. The book centers around Raven Queen, the daughter of the evil queen, and her decisions of whether to sign the book or not. This is definitely a teen lit book and a fun, quick, easy read. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lighter read.

This book was a joint effort between me and my 8 year old. We had fun taking turns reading to each other, and it actually turned out to be a pretty decent read. She loves all the characters and we are looking forward to reading the next book.
