When I saw a student version of "Lulu" at my university, I was shocked and slightly traumatized by the ending. Our students put more effort into making the last character into a recognizable and horrific Jack the Ripper than I believe Wedekind ever intended to be performed. It was much better when read than when performed, I think. True, it was difficult to remember who was who, but overall a fascinating play.
