BOOK REVIEW: The Realm of Oblivion by Marae Good

I received this book as an ARC for one of the most beautiful humans, @maraegood.writes! Thank you for letting me read this wonderful story early. It was so fun to read!

There are NO SPOILERS in this review.

💍 Collins has no memory of her life prior to her accident several years prior. She has woken up into a lonely existence in an unloving family who forces her to stay in her room all day. But everything changes when she sneaks out of the house one night, learning the truth about her past. She was stolen from her home by realm traffickers, who took her memories before leaving her in another world. Collins is forced to find out who she was in the past ... and who she is now.

This book is the first book in a brand-new YA fantasy romance series by indie author Marae Good. The characters are flawed and vulnerable. The magic and world-building are intriguing and unveil slowly throughout the novel. The pace of the novel was good -- always making the reader want more. And the premise of the entire book -- realm trafficking and lost memories -- tackled difficult issues in a brand new way.

This book includes some well-loved tropes, including enemies-to-lovers, one-bed, who-did-this-to-you, dark-haired morally-grey men, and a love triangle (done well!). It is a closed-door romance that fits well with the YA fantasy genre.

As a debut author, Good is still finding her writing style and voice. But you can see Good's talent in many of the beautifully-written, emotional passages in this story. This is such a strong first book, I can't wait to see how the series unfolds and how Good grows as a writer!
