This was my least favorite of the series. I loved the first in the series, but they feel like they're getting more contrived as the series continues. This book started off kinda slow, yet the relationship felt rushed. The two voices weren't distinct enough; I sometimes had to remind myself of which POV I was reading. My other issue is with the HEA. The relationship always ends in marriage and the other man taking the Marian name. It's like losing an identity. I hope the last in the series ends it on a high note.
Maverick's parents died when he was young, and instead of his grandmother taking him in, he was put in the foster system. He bears a grudge against grandma up until she dies, and he goes back home to South Carolina. There, he finds out why she couldn't take him in, and more importantly, he finds Beau.
Beau's been in love with Maverick since he was a teen, despite never expecting to see him again. Now that Maverick's back, Beau needs him to fall in love with the tiny island community, so he won't sell his grandma;s place to some big developer and ruin the charm of the island.
I liked this one quite a bit, because there was a bit more drama and a little less fluff in it. Beau has to convince Maverick the town's worth keeping small and charming, and so you get a lot of small town goodness. I grew up in what's little more than a wide spot in the road, with it's own small community, so I can understand. Also, there's a hurricane that comes in and ups the stakes, and I enjoyed seeing Maverick have to deal with it, and make some lasting judgement calls based on it. Overall, there was plenty of fluff and it was an easy read, but there was more to it that I liked versus the first few books.

This is my second favorite book in this series. It's a second chance friends to lovers romance with a lot of hot sex and sweet sweet words.
Ahh, Maverick, I enjoyed the book overall but I felt it kind of dragged just a bit and I was sad about that.
I liked both characters I think they were perfect for each other I did with Beau spoke up a little more about what he wanted I kind of felt like he expected Maverick to just know.
For everyone to then accept Maverick into the town that was sweet and I enjoyed the small town aspect of this story. I guess I just wanted a more realistic theme between the two men like he was just supposed to give up his life and move. I don’t know..
But like I said it was a good book I just wanted something more.
The narration again he becoming a narrator I will seek out again.

A swoony steamy beautiful love story
Oh the feels in this book - one minute I was laughing, the next I was swooning, then gasping, and then I was crying. The way the main characters’ feelings for each other were portrayed was palpable and heart warming. Maverick Marian is a veterinarian in San Francisco. He’s also gay and was adopted by the Marian family after living with a foster family following the death of his parents and the refusal of his grandmother to care for him. Beau Talmadge is a GC who lives on a small island off the coast of SC. When Maverick’s grandmother dies and leaves her estate on the small island to Maverick, he and Beau, who were childhood friends, reconnect. Thus the beautiful dance toward their HEA is restarted after a 15 year separation. There is a lot of past stuff that they both have to unpack on the way and this is portrayed perfectly with witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. This was a swoony, hilarious, fun, sweet, steamy, heart warming story with low angst. I am still adoring this loving, quirky family and I am excited to read about the next Marion sibling.

The main character is abandoned to foster care for a totally stupid reason by his wealthy “loving” grandmother and I cannot even. The only good thing about this plot was that the grandmother was dead by the time the book starts.
This woman had many options, if she really thought she couldn’t care for him she could have gotten a lawyer involved to find a guardian or family he could live with, arranged a private adoption, sent him to boarding school, hired a caretaker. At the very least she could have set up a trust to pay for his care and education. What she chose was unforgivable, she was a selfish horrible person. She thinks being around his dying grandmother would be worse than risking rape, abuse, abandonment by strangers through the foster care system. She makes no financial provision at all for his care or education. And never over 15 years make any effort to find or help the grandson she abandoned? and wtf the best friend is a fricking idiot for never questioning where his friend disappeared to.
If I was this guy going back to that island, I would tell everyone at the funeral what she did and take a full page ad out in the local paper to make sure anyone who missed the funeral found out too. And anybody who tried to tell me selling her property off was wrong because it would disrupt their lives I would laugh in their face and give them a double middle finger.

I loved Mav and Beau’s relationship! When two characters have some sort of unspoken history that is reignited is always a good way to start a more intense relationship. The fact that they lived on a super cute island and both were willing to compromise on moving made it so much more special, but in the end, Mav’s decision to come back to Rabbit Island and be with Beau despite his family and achievements remaining in California was so sweet and adorable. I can’t wait for more of the Marian family.
Abandoned/DNF @ 52%
I just couldn't get into this one, and kept having to force myself to go read a few pages. Just 10/10 do not care about Maverick and Beau, I'm sorry!!!
