This is a cute easy read. I love how she found things to make her happy even in old age- to feel like she was starting new again even after all the bad things in her past.

What a sweet story.

I have to admit, when I first started listening to this, I had a rough time getting into it. But then when the mouse came in, it just became so sweet. I think animals makes such a difference in our life. Caring about another living being makes such an impact. It changes everything really. This book is a great demonstration of that.

I tagged this for reading after hearing about it on What Should I Read Next podcast. By the time I selected it, I'd forgotten whatever Anne said about it and did not read tje synopsis, so I went in blind.

I can understand why some folks would not like this. It's written plainly, is rather slow, and it's predictable and a bit saccharine.  And yet.

I am sixty years old and my mother recently died lonely, the last of her circle.  Most days I feel like I could easily be "done."   But I have spells when my generalized cynacism lifts and I reflect on life and loss and love and hope. This sweet story caught me in one of those spells and I savored it.

I didn’t enjoy this as much as I’ve enjoyed other books about depressed retirees, but it was still very good.
