Really good but intense. Not at all what l was expecting. Kind of drags in the beginning but almost impossible to put down in the end (especially when you have 90 minutes to finish it before the library closes).
Slow with not much happening even up to 51 % through
I know I read this last year but I've been thinking about it a lot so I decided to give it a star rating 😅 probably my favourite Sarah Waters so far?

I'm about two thirds through the novel, and while I'm not sure I'll finish, I do admire the writing. The atmosphere and character work are excellent, but the pacing is pretty slow, and the plot hasn't fully pulled me in. Still, it's clearly a well-written novel, and I'd give it around 3.75 to 4 stars for the quality alone.

this book did drag a little and i was expecting more than what i got. however, the plot itself was good and i liked how human the characters are. they lie to themselves a lot and try to appease their conscience and these parts were well written. overall i enjoyed, but it just felt so slow.
