Few of the poems are good but some are just confusing.

‘she asked ‘you are in love
what does love look like’
to which i replied
‘like everything i’ve ever lost
come back to me’’

3.5 stars. ok so funny enough some of my most fav poems/pieces of writing have come from this book?? did not even realize until I was reading it. unfortunately the length of the poems, while a pretty common style in poetry, just isn’t my thing. I like them LONGG. this was a stunning portrait though. it felt like the authors whole heart resided within the pages of this book :’) amazing

a very alluring collection of poetry that speaks about culture, diaspora, familial love, healing, and so much more. it was very beautiful, i have many poems bookmarked. 4.5 stars!!

just brilliant. largely short pieces of poetry that pack incredible punches of emotion and thought provoking-ness.

"what
massacre
happens to my son
between
him
living within my skin.
drinking my cells.
my water.
my organs.
and
his soft psyche turning cruel.
does he not remember
he
is half woman."

this was such a simple yet powerful read, the african lament had me in tears. there is nothing more revolutionary than flowers and four letters, and this book, this book is perfect. i am speechless
