Just starting to get into Sharon Olds. Everyone I know loves her, so I am excited to read more.

Things I liked here:

Unknown
If you know someone / who was there, that hour, at the burial, / could you tell them--I don’t know what you could tell them.

Sunday Night
Places we had been before, / no one would serve us, unless there was a young / unwarned woman, and I never warned her.

The Clasp
Her dark, / deeply open eyes took me / in, she knew me, in the shock of the moment / she learned me.

The Learner
And then They are things / I would not, have learned, if he, had lived, / but I cannot, be glad, he died

Past Future Imperfect
I’ll think of that day, and hear us, the pair / I thought was entering fresh outskirts / of play, I’ll see his tiredness / and loneliness, we had weeks left

Psalm
Do not / tell me this could end. Do not tell me.

no hubo un solo poema que no me gustara. No hay otra palabra para describir a este libro y a Sharon Olds y su escritura que no sea absolutamente maravilloso. lo quiero releer mil veces más.

Olds, the poet laureate of cummy pubic hair, wrote a poem called 'Heaven to Be', which made me cry

Masterful, powerful, and something I've never seen in poetry before.
I made the "mistake" of reading Stag's Leap first. That meant I came to this volume knowing what was to come for the narrator, and that meant a lot of tears. The ache these poems leave in my heart makes me want to keep reading them until it heals.

Well-connected collection that provides a poetic journey through a person's life and relationship with mother, partners, and children. The images are evocative throughout.
