God it’s like so well written but it’s just so slimy and gross i can’t give it a higher score. Also ending was unsatisfying and abrupt but i feel like that was purposeful and added to the theme of the book

The ending feels very rushed compared to the pace of the rest of the book. The word choice in this book, however, is impeccable.

It's not Hurricane Season. But what is? This should've at least been shortlisted for the Booker International (and lowkey should've won). Fernanda Melchor is officially the queen of being robbed by the British literati.

Fernanda Melchor's voice is a force of nature. Her writing through which the imagery she conjures up is relentless and powerful, slimy even (some of the book's elements do bring you back to Hurricane Season and that's a big plus). Although quite repetitive in some places, it never ever lets up. Good shit.
