Finally back at it! This was an interesting volume. It hints at how things are going with our familiar heroes back in Paradise, but it's been 3-4 years since the events of the previous volume and I want to get back to them asap!! Interesting to learn more about the Eldian people tho, but since we were thrown right into the middle of a battle with a whole new cast of characters it was a little difficult getting into this volume.

We finally get the backstory of what the hell made Reiner, Annie, and Bertoldt do the things they did. What it all comes down to is Eldians fighting Eldians with these Marleyan assholes looking over everything. They should just team up and rule the world!

Can I just say how much I just LOVE Reiner Braun. I cannot help but feel sorry for him in this series. He is probably one of the most well-written characters in Attack on Titan or just any piece of literature. Period. I love how we are reading from his point of view, because I do not care about the 104th trainee squad or the Survey Corp. I just do not and you can hate me all you want.
I love that we saw little Bertl being his nice usual self and encouraging Reiner and telling him not to give up. I miss him a lot and I HOPE we get more flashbacks of him and I loved seeing Reiner and how much he has changed from when he was a young kid. He was half-Marleyan and basically his mother made him feel like he needed to enlist in the warrior programme so that he and his mother could become honorary Marleyans and he could reunite his family. We see so many parallels between Reiner and Eren: For example, when Reiner's family were asking him questions about Paradis island; he gagged the same way Eren did when he was asked about the attack on Shiganshina, and then proceeded to express his thoughts in a light hearted way like Eren did. Also, the relationship between Bertholdt, Annie, and Reiner parallel Armin, Mikasa, and Eren. He, like Eren, had no particular skill, but he worked really hard to improve.
Reiner, in these chapters, is basically a shell of what he once was. He seems so detached from everyone and everything. He shows no enthusiasm when meeting his mother after all those years and also that scene where he is meeting up with Gabi, Falco, Zofia and Udo and he saw himself with Annie, Bertholdt, Marcel and Porco, broke me in a million pieces and also that scene where he was having a nightmare and he was reaching out to save Bertholdt saddens me on so many levels. He has lost almost all of his comrades.
Now I hate Porco Galliard with a passion of a thousand burning suns. This guy pisses me off so much. Some say that Porco is sort of like Jean, but I disagree completely. Jean and Eren are rivals, they butt heads but Porco straight up bullied Reiner. Porco hates Reiner and he does not hide it,whatsoever. He's just a bully, he has no underlying positive feelings for reiner whatsoever lmao. and the fact that he still bullies him now even though they're grown ass men pisses me off. Reiner has been through hell and the fact that he did not even wake up Reiner when he was clearly having a nightmare, is cruel. Porco KNOWS that Reiner has been through hell and what does he do, he straight up shoves marcel's death in his face at every opportunity. I cannot stand him: the only reason I tolerate him was because he respects Ymir and Pieck.
I love the new warriors so much: I love Colt and Falco and Gabi. I just need more development from Zofia and Udo, the Bertholdt look-alike who panics a lot. Gabi is this ball of energy and she is so hyper-active and fun. Plus she is Reiner's cousin, which is why Reiner wants Falco to save her that much. Reiner is clearly not happy with his actions, and I think he is trying to save these kids from this never-ending vicious cycle of mental, emotional and physical pain.
Now one thing that bothers me is that Bertholdt's death is still not addressed. I hope this gets addressed soon because I need some reaction from Reiner: because he is pretty much the only character who cared about him.
