The Shut Eye

This is quite a peculiar book. Despite a serious theme of 2 missing children, at times I thought I was reading a comedy. However, it’s different and imaginative hence 4 stars and not 3.

I love her writing and her characters are so, so good. The story wasn’t as good as some of her others but I still tore through it.

Excellent, well written, funny, brilliant characters, a good plot and storyline

I enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. Some of the reasoning for 'why' could have perhaps been explained better but I enjoyed the book.

This was an intensely dissatisfying crime novel that I could easily have done without. The result of a spur-of-the-moment decision to buy, rather than the carefully selected books I normally get. Had I had any idea that "the shut eye" refers to psychics, I would have dropped it like a hot stone. As it was, I didn't know, the blurb didn't say and I had done no research on the book.

I'm not sure I can be bothered by a synopsis. Anyway, the mother of little lost Daniel apparently has a psychic connection with a longer lost 12-year old, Edie. Detective inspector John Marvel at least, believes this, and annoys everyone - including his boss - by exploring this lead. There is even a rather long sub-plot about finding a lost dog.

The story and plotting is convoluted and contrived beyond the belief. I had much higher hopes for Belinda Bauer than this.

I enjoyed this book, the characters practically jumped out of the speakers. I don't know if that was the Authors doing or Andrew Wincott who read it. He was fantastic! The only real complaint I have is that there was no happy ending for everyone in the book. some got one and some didn't.

This book was great! This is the first time I've read any of Belinda Bauer's work, I plan on reading more!

I listened to the BOT. More twists and turns than I was expecting. Nice job.
