A grumpy, single dad hero and a nanny that he shares a dark history with.

There is a lot to love about this book– the romance, the suspense plot, the protagonists, and the kids (!!!). As with many of Cowles' works, as I have come to learn, this book offers a perfect blend of romance and suspense, drawing readers into a richly woven narrative that is both emotional and heartwarming.

I love the romance between the main characters. Despite their difficult and traumatic pasts, they are both determined to overcome them. The journey to healing wasn't easy or smooth-sailing but it was all worth it.

That being said, my favourite characters have to be the kids. Luke, Drew and little Charlie stole my heart from page 1. I love that the boys all have different quirks and personalities. Luke's character development throughout the book definitely tugged on my heartstrings, and there were a few moments that made tears well up in my eyes.

This book was well-paced, offering a good balance between romance and suspenseful intrigue. The twists and turns kept me engaged the entire time, so much so that I had the Kindle in my hand throughout dinner.

The emotional depth, well-crafted characters, and engaging plot make it a standout read that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Do yourself a favour and go pick up this book– or any of Cowles' other works!

Finally a series saves the best book for last! This whole series was phenomenal, but Law and Hallie take the best couple award. I’d been looking forward to Lawson’s book since the very beginning of the series and it didn’t disappoint! It did the age gap and nanny tropes so well and also the mystery was one of Cowles best EVER!

If you are a fan of Catherine Cowles's previous romantic suspense novels, you will enjoy Ashes of You. It is very similar to her other books and was exactly what I have come to expect from Cowles. It had:

* a woman recovering from a traumatic experience/situation
* moving to a small town to heal in the beauty of the mountains and nature
* she falls for a man who is one of many siblings of a big, supportive family
* he falls just as hard for her, gives her a cringy pet name, and will do anything to protect her
* her past comes back to haunt, chase, and capture her
* hero saves the day
* an HEA.

Despite feeling pretty much like every other Cowles book I have read, I enjoyed it. Hallie was a sweetheart and her falling for Lawson and his three boys was sweet. The dynamics between them all were a lot of fun. It was nice getting to know Lawson better and find out more about his single father status. The entire Hartley clan showed up for support and it was great to see them again. The serial killer part of the book wasn't surprising, but did add a fun, low level of suspense. Ashes of You was an entertaining read.

If I could give Hallie and Lawson ♾️✨ It wouldn’t be enough!! The only thing I would change is that I wish there was more! I love Catherine’s books and her characters always feel like friends, but the deep emotional connection to Hallie and Law is just *chef’s kiss* perfection.

CW: kidnapping, panic attack, stalking, violence, murder

I got teary at several spots in this one. I enjoyed reading how Hallie worked with the boys. I enjoyed how supportive the women in Lawson's life were of Hallie. The mystery was well hidden. Not a lot of hints were dropped about the villain. I liked watching Lawson fall for Hallie.
