I liked this one but I don’t feel like there was a point to it. It’s very rock n roll and finding yourself but I didn’t get the why. The protagonist is enjoyable and self deprecating. There’s a ton of playlists in this and one of them was definitely made for me CW: drinking while maybe being pregnant and drunk driving (which are just two no thank yous)

I can’t rate this book fairly because a dear friend wrote it (Story Graph won’t let me give 100 out of 5 stars). I’m absolutely biased AND this was wildly well written. The writing was both compelling and artistic, frantic and poetic and I couldn’t put it down. Bonus treat: getting to reminisce about the version of Nashville I moved to just over a decade ago. What a gift to witness a friend’s expert craft. Go buy this book and get lost in the story.

Lo Fi by Liz Riggs is a compelling coming-of-age novel that captures the tumultuous journey of early adulthood. The story follows Al, a complex protagonist navigating her messy twenties, as she struggles with indecision, boundaries, and romantic entanglements.

Set against a vibrant musical backdrop, Riggs' authentic prose and keen understanding of music culture shine throughout. Interspersed playlists and musical references create an immersive atmosphere that evokes empathy and nostalgia.

The novel vividly captures the challenges of pursuing a creative career, with characters whose passion and uncertainty feel authentic. Riggs skillfully portrays the existential crises and questionable decisions every day to young adulthood, evoking a sense of recognition that may make readers cringe. (Lord knows I know I did! 😆)

Lo Fi is a poignant exploration of finding one's voice, highly recommended for those who appreciate a raw, honest portrayal of self-discovery. It's a must-read for fans of Daisy Jones and The Six, anyone nostalgic for the mid-2000s, or those who feel music in their soul.
