I would actually like to give this book 4 1/2 stars because there were a couple of things I didn't like about it. It is a little wordy in places and I didn't like the descriptions of deer hunting (this is just my anti-hunting bias). The last 1/4 of the book is so suspenseful you will want to read it in one sitting.

I don’t know why I kept reading this book, but now that I’ve finished it maybe someone else won’t have to? Hated the names; found the great mystery not very compelling; didn’t buy the greedy motive unveiled at the end that even the characters themselves describe as “too predictable.” I really only liked the scene where two characters suddenly kiss to throw off anyone possibly in pursuit, because it was such a surprise.

It felt to me as if this book was just kind of slapped together. So many details and descriptions of the littlest items/people/places, but I still somehow could not emotionally connect with the characters. The middle drug ever so slowly along. The author then tried to pack the ending with action and twists, but it came up confusing, flat and not believable. I couldn't wait for this one to end.

This is the story of a teenage Southern boy whose blind uncle runs a "hunt club" on several thousand acres of land. Every weekend rich doctors come to eat and hunt deer. One weekend Huger (You-Gee) and his Uncle Leland discover a dead body. This discovery sets in motion a chain of events that threaten Huger and everyone he cares about. When Huger untangles this web of murder, deceit, and lies will he ever be the same again? Will he survive? A wonderful whodunit! Just when you think you've figured it all out you realize you've only uncovered another layer.
