Great story. SO long, though! And such a mind f*ck.

The Beam: Season One was amazing. I only had a vague idea of what it was about before reading, and I'm glad about that now. The characters are so well drawn and developed, the world is rich and full of depth, and the story is multi-layered and works on many levels (adventure, character, philisophical). It was so much fun to discover it all without any preconceived notions about it. It's a serial, so I knew not to expect the traditional plot and plot resolution, but I still found Season 1 very satisfying and a fantastic read. I can't wait to start Season 2.

I have a little niggling feeling about the female characters, but of the three main female characters, two of them are simply amazing. I thought Kai was going to be a bit of a stereotype and she sort of was, but then she was also so much more than that. As the story developed, so did the characters, especially Kai. Leah was also multi-dimentional character right from the start. I really love her and can't wait to see how her story fits in with the rest of the story.

Overall: Well developed story, characters with depth, and lots of adventure with lots to think about as well. It would be difficult to ask for more in a serial book like this one.
