Picked it up because of the art. Really enjoyed the superhero comic book cover and propaganda poster references.

GMB Chomichuck's art, as always, is mesmerizing. Although I have to admit that the amount of shadows in each panel sometimes had me wishing for just a little bit more detail because I couldn't always quite tell what was happening.
I'd thought the main character died at the end, but judging by the descriptions of the other two books in this series it would seem I'm mistaken... oops.

The writing was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed this take on Golden Age comics with a horror/pulp twist to it. The lettered sound effects mentioned in the foreword as comedic being used in juxtaposition to the horror genre was also really fun.

The propaganda posters, fake comic issue covers, and character names as logos showing up in dialogue were also a really nice touch.

Overall, if you're looking for genre fiction by an indie Canadian comics creator, I think you could stand to give this one a chance.
