Spicy romance, HFN.

Spicy bits include: BDSM, anal, deepthroat.
A good portion of the Spicy "kinks" are not my cup of tea to read about. Hence the edited review rating & spoilers. Most of these Spice themes are repeated throughout this series and generally throughout this author's books. Not for me so I'll be either avoiding this author in the future, or reading reviews beforehand for content warnings to see whether alternate series/books will be worth it. A pity as the action scenes, description of the rescue team's culture etc was interesting.

This was a really great introduction to the Adrenaline Search & Rescue series by Vivian Arend. Becki is a trained Search and Rescue climber but is still recovering, mentally, from a climb with her partner that resulted in a fatal accident. She doesn’t fully remember what happened on that climb and sometimes still experiences nightmares but she is ready to get back to doing what she loves. When she joins a well-known climbing institute to work as a trainer Becki is once again face to face with Marcus, the man she had a very hot affair with years earlier when she originally attended the school. What I really love about Ms. Arend’s heroines is they are some pretty kick ass individuals. Yes, Becki has some issues that she’s working through but that doesn’t stop her from being a strong individual working a job that only takes the elite. Marcus has scars of his own he’s working through. After losing his arm he can no longer fully participate in the rescues that he loved to be a part of, but working with the institute and connecting again with Becki spark something for him. I loved the chemistry between these two, the drive and the fire that they applied to their jobs and to the bedroom. Great introduction to a fun, smexy new series.

This is book one in Vivian Arend's new Adrenaline series.

Eight months ago Becki survived a dangerous search & rescue mission that her partner/lover did not. She comes to help out with the Search and Rescue (SAR) school she left years ago. Marcus lost his hand in a mission a couple years ago and is still trying to recover from the psychological aspects of that trip. The two come together to help re-train themselves and meanwhile fall back into the relationship sparked in their school days.

If you're looking for a high passion, high suspense story with great characters, this is definitely the book for you!

High Risk was a disappointment for me. The set up for this first book in the Adrenaline Search and Rescue series was a rescue team based in the Canadian Rockies. Their leader, Marcus, had lost his hand in a previous incident. His former lover, Becki, comes back to work with Marcus's brother as a teacher in his climbing school. She has suffered a recent tragedy of her own in a climbing incident that she can't remember. This book was labeled romantic suspense, but the only real suspense was how many times Marcus and Becki would have sex before she finally remembered all the details of the climbing accident that took the life of her partner. Obviously Arend spent time researching rock climbing and rescue. The book was well written; the sex scenes very sensual and erotic, but the actual "meat" of the story was told over just a few pages. I'm not sure if I want to continue this series.

Characters: search and rescue climber, former SAR climber, both with trauma
World Building: Mountain search and rescue
Plot: discovering past and moving forward, rescue, internal
Sex: Medium to hot
Read another: Yes

I would put this in the same category as Jill Sorenson's books. Highly competent people dealing with dangerous situations, and everyone has agency. Yay!

Dachte es wird mehr um die Arbeit des LifeLine Search & Rescue Teams gehen, dabei handelt die gesamte Geschichte vom Training und den jeweiligen Schicksalschlägen/Problemen der Hauptcharaktere

I enjoyed this. I didn't know much about SAR (search & rescue) and mountain climbing, and the amount of detail in this novel was educational. The love story was intense and hot, and the tension built nicely as the author dropped clues via flashbacks to the trauma affecting the heroine.
