On this latest reread, I still can say that I enjoy J.J. Graves as the protagonist. She's relateable and quirky. She's smart and an effective ME, but because of things outside her control, life has given her some tough cards to play.

Love the town of Bloody Mary. In this book, she definitely has lived up to the name.

The red herring was well played, but I feel that the ultimate killer should've had a few more clues sprinkled through the story...IMO.

I like Jack. Not sure I want him to end up with J.J. Graves. For the moment, I'd keep him in the "friend zone", though she got a good look at him in this story...so anything is possible, I guess.

The author, Brody Collins was well placed. I liked him, but I also felt that he was TOO good...for a story like this. Ugh.

Lastly, I love that I read this story during the #GraveyardSmash 2023 readathon. This was my third book. This book represents D4 - Start of a new series. The goal...like in Battleship, is to find the bodies buried by my opponent. I found one part of the body, and now I'm trying to narrow it down to the 2/3. Wish me luck.

Thoughts on the first read: I needed a diversionary read, but was pleasantly surprised by this book. I bought the rest of the books in this series.

This book was such a good read! It had me guessing the entire time and I never saw the ending coming! I thought I knew who it was in the first chapter and this was the first book in a long time where I was wrong. The writer does a great job of giving just enough details but not dragging it on and on. The book is a smooth and intriguing read that I absolutely loved! I so enjoy when I find random books and they turn out good! Now on to the second in the series:)

I really enjoyed this story. The writing was good, and the characters were likable and believable. I thought I had figured out who the killer was fairly early on, only to discover at the end that I was wrong! There was a great twist that I wasn't expecting.

My favorite Liliana Hart books are the Whiskey ones - however, this series is off to a good start. A little dark (as you can imagine) but a quick read with a nice twist at the end that I didn't see coming! Excited to read book #2.

2.5 stars. It seems unfaire to rate this realistically. As it’s not the worst thing I’ve read, but it’s not “good”. It didn’t even make me angry, like many two star books do. Overall it’s very juvenile. The writing is conversational and, procedurally it’s totally uninformed. It’s predictable in that way where you’re supposed to spend the whole book thinking the killer is one guy, but it’s not that guy, and you know it won’t be that guy. Overall, I’d say this isn’t a good book, but I was at least entertained and engaged.
