I ripped through this, barely pausing to breathe. Fantastic storytelling, truly memorable characters, and a universe that manages to be consistent despite spanning thousands of worlds. Masterful.

it’s almost a 4 star read.
book 2 and i can already see great character arcs.
world building is obviously impressive

It was dragging sometimes… and i was missing something. but i guess it’s nothing new with trudi canavan. slowly developing but overall amazing

Not super sure about how to rate it yet, so lets say 3,5 stars for now.

It was better than the first book. But I still found Rielle's story to be boring, which put down the rating (had her storyline been more interesting this would have been a solid 4 stars). Still didn't like the way the parts between Tyen and Rielle were disposed, it was annoying to be dragged in and out of them. Having the parts shorter like in the end of this book (and the first one) worked much better.

SpoilerI am however happy that they stories became more related and they FINALLY got to meet and I hope they will be together more in the next book (but pray to heaven and hell in NO ROMANTIC way i swear to god if Rielle thinks of a man in any kind of romantic way like "does he love me, will i marry him, will i learn to love him?" one more time i will puke. i was really bothered that bigger part of her plot in the first book was so focused around Izare while Tyen was running from the world and in this book joining rebels as Raen's spy and having all the fun plot. Rielle a woman who need no man. Just let her be a badass powerful sorceress in the next book who slays men

A magnificent sequel! I struggled to put this book down and I loved how Rielle's and Tyen's stories were tied together. A brilliant piece of writing!

Very close to 4 stars. Angel of Storms is an improvement over its predecessor Thief's Magic. In the first book, the two protagonists did not meet at all, and it read like two very separate stories. In Angel of Storms, they do eventually meet, and their story-lines run parallel when they are separate, with some cross-over of characters between.

Rielle is living among tapestry weavers, slowly reproducing magic back into the world. The Raen, a man her world views as a divine Angel, asks her if she wants to come to his world as an artisan, as she easily makes magic through her artistic works (magic is depleted as it used).

She goes with him, but something goes wrong, and she is stranded with the Travellers, a gypsy-like people who travel through worlds as merchants. She discovers her magical capabilities, which were suppressed in her home world.

Tyen is teaching magic at a school, also not in his home world. When everyone is informed the Raen has reappeared, the school dissolves and all magic users are fearful. Tyen ends up aligning with the rebels; sorcerers that want to kill the Raen. Tyen is still set on making Vella human, and his involvement with the Raen and the rebels are affected by that choice.

The characters have more agency in this installment, which was a major complaint I had of the first book. However, Rielle didn't have as much agency as I would have liked, as she is being whisked away all the time.

It did drag a bit in the middle, which is why 3 stars. The portion in which Rielle is learning more powerful magic seemed like it should have been earlier, as it didn't sit well in the middle.

Tyen seemed way too much in a good mood for his choices. I won't get spoilerly. I imagined him smiling all the time and patting people on the back.

I liked that the story finally had momentum. The first book spent too much time setting up the characters. Each of their home worlds really don't have much significance now.

When I try to remember, Rielle has had more character progression than Tyen, so the first book served her more than him. I found her thoughts in which she analyzed all the men very amusing. I remember doing that when I was younger, thinking about what if this person and I ended up together, how would that be.

Overall, it kept me reading. I would have liked more subtle plotting. The ending is really intriguing. Honestly, some authors would start off a new series with that ending, skipping all the drawn out buildup.

One of Trudi Canavan's masterpieces.
