This books grips you from the onset and takes you on a horrific and terrifying journey right along with sixteen year old Gemma as she is abducted from the Bangkok air terminal whilst on vacation with her parents. The tale is chilling and remarkably believable despite post 9/11 security measures that would make this pretty impossible to manage these days. Alarmingly, twenty-five year old Ty has been watching Gemma and planning a life for the two of them in the remote, sparsely inhabited Australian outback for the past six years after a chance encounter in a London park once. it is creepy and makes for a spellbinding page turner best suited for more mature YA readers. Through Gemma's words we come to know both characters and their subtle nuances. What emerges is less a picture of psychotic evildoing than one of a very complex and broken man. Gemma's confusion is palpable, mingled with fear, anger, resentment, longing, and empathy. While the subject matter is decidedly mature, there is no sexual abuse. This would make for a good book club discussion with YAs.
Bah, I have so many emotions. *dying whale noises* Just the whole story...I have no idea what to say. I love the way it ended, even if I was sort of unsatsfied. I would like to know what happens next. The author wasn't clear on what was going to happen to the characters. But what I did love about it, is...sort of everything. Yes, some parts did get a little boring, but it was made by other 'better' parts. I definitely recommend this book to everyone, and especially to those who are looking for a book that is more on the realistic side.

This book made me question EVERYTHING. It's a book where you root for the bad guy, then find yourself disgusted by it. So many books only write about the black and white, or the palest grey. This book is grey grey grey!
To be honest, I was not expecting this book to fuck me up as much as it did.

I liked the idea of this a lot. Liked it when I read a preview, like the idea of a story that *basically* only has two people, and seeing how that played into the SS. I think my main problem want so much the story as the writing style. It wasn't my taste. It seemed cryptic in tone, overly so, and the short simple sentences bored me quickly. It was a pain for me to read most of the time and it was hard to really understand Gemma as a person and not a simple character. I think the story was there it was everything else that made it kind of meh for me. Maybe I will try rereading it down the line to see if this has changed.
