somehow I was OK with this book until the end. I wasn't thrilled with the premise, but the writing itself was done well. The authoress presented her ideas early on and used tropes that signaled the end of all pretty early on. It was the last 20 pages or so that struck me. Maybe because so many children will never have that luck.

i want to give this book like a 3.75, i was expecting it to be like a Stockholm Syndrome kind of thing and just nothing happened. for the entire book. it wasnt until the very end where anything happened and then it was all action packed. the premise of the book was good, it had a good vibe, was just boring. wish she had fallen in love w him tbh lmao.

Took me a bit long to finish it but I really enjoyed it and was captivated already from reading the first chapter.
Christopher is a very talented writer and succeeded in making me feel various emotions and at some points experience Stockholm Syndrome, which is the theme the book focuses on most.
I sympathise a lot for Gemma and at some points sympathised for Ty, which made me annoyed at myself.
Overall, it was a good read and a very immersing, interesting book.

Interesting...not sure if I liked it. I wasn't a fan of the way the chapters were not numbered. The beginning of the book was fast paced and then when they got out to the house dragged. I didn't expect the ending.

So this was definitely a reread for me read it when I was a little bit younger so in the beginning Gemma is in Bangkok airport she had just had a fight with her parents over what she was wearing so she decides to go and get a coffee from one of the nearby cafes but when she gets the cash here says they don't take British Pound Sterling that's when he turns off and pays for her coffee and ask her to go and sit where he was sitting or she can go and sit with the Addams family what after having a big fight with her parents she was not keen with sitting with the Addams Family but now she wonders what would have happened if she had with this of still happened he somehow gets her out of the country to Australia with a brand new password he had been working on this plan for years ever since he met her when she was 10 years old in a park now she's 16 this was a really messed up book it wasn't as bad as some books I've read on this subject and this is told like she's writing it down in a diary or like in the letter form when I first read it was a five star rereading it I think it's more of a 3 Book because I have read it better but saying that this is still one of my favorite

Writing was mediocre but I did enjoy the characters, setting, and basic plot. Good for 8th, 9th, 10th grade girls primarily.

Update - After rereading in 2024, I liked it better. The perspective on the psychology of being abducted was really intriguing. This book is still popular with high school girls.

This is such a quick read that I can't quite believe I've finished it. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that I'm surprised at my own reactions to the characters, and found some of the scenes really beautiful. This reminded me a lot of THE COLLECTOR, but easier to deal with because it's YA.

this was so disturbing and weird to read sometimes cause it felt so real but gosh when i tell there was a lot of beautiful stuff in this book too. and now i'm sitting here crying thinking: why did a kidnapper make me feel like he brought me to a whole new beautiful world? man this book is sooooo different from anything i have read before
