If you are at all familiar with true crime then you have probably heard the name Cinnamon Brown. She was a 14 year old kid who was completely manipulated by her POS father, David Brown, to unalive her stepmother, Linda Bailey Brown. Linda’s younger sister and David’s eventual sixth wife, Patti Bailey Brown, was also manipulated into the scheme. Patti at this point was also a teenager.
Here Ann Rule tells the whole story and I mean the WHOLE story. This book was 600 pages and I feel it was about 200 pages too long. It honestly didn’t even read like a typical Rule book. She had a pretty distinct voice and it just felt somehow different in this one. There was so much repetition in this and a lot of filler that really wasn’t needed and was, I feel, completely unnecessary to the story itself. Though this was complicated case it just didn’t need to be as long as it was.
Through some research I’ve discovered that David Brown is no longer with us and pretty much all I have to say about that is….well, bye.

This book was okay, but it was long and over inflated in some parts I felt. It could have been shorter and still got the pertinent details across. I did appreciate the follow-up at the end.

I listened to this as an audio book on the way to an out of town conference. Anne Rule did a great job narrating. This was a great book. It was also terrifying to know that someone like David Brown exists in this world.

This isn't Ann Rule's best, but that's probabl7 because the crime is sooo slow. And Rule always described the background of every person or city, so that makes it even longer. She's still my favorite true crime writer, though
