Why did they do it? Because they could.

Certainly a thought-provoking book and I can understand the mixed reviews even from staunch feminists. The way I saw it, once we get to the point where the gender roles formally switch, it is necessary to continue reminding yourself of the original lens. I imagine the author wants to tell men, "See, this sounds bad, doesn't it? Bet you'd hate if our roles were reversed." This is a bridge to build empathy.

One scene that stuck with me was the New Delhi scene, particularly how it ended. Pre-Day of the Girls and with genders reversed, a scene like that would have ended very differently.

After that though, the plot falls off the deep end, and I don't necessarily disagree with it, as with such a drastic difference in power between two groups of people, it is not that far-fetched to imagine something like that happening. And
the rebuilding of civilization into a matriarchal society is interesting to imagine
. I do wish it ended differently, though. Not even necessarily more optimistic but something more to hold on to.

Also the idea of a
post-catachlysm man writing this book
just doesn't work in my head, with its very "early 21st century" references and its accurate depiction of modern online misogyny.

Anyway, despite some complaints I do appreciate a lot of what this book has to offer.

Great concept and interesting to read, but I’d have liked more character details.

3.5 🌟🌟🌟

This is the 3rd popular book I have read now that I've had quite high hopes for that have failed miserably. I don't really understand the popularity of this book at all it lacks something so dignified that I can't fathom into words what is precisely wrong with it.

The story of women around the world having Lightning powers sounds relatively interesting. The start of the book give me such high hopes and made me eager to read more. I felt as if in the first 100 pages that was enough. I felt the story was good and almost done in those 100 pages. I think personally the authour had a good idea and fell through with creating a good enough story for a published book. It was definitely an interesting read and I don't entirely regret reading it. I'm just hugely disappointed in the book as a whole. The ending was horribly boring and confusing with no actual ending at all left me relatively frustrated. I suspected a lot of good from this book but it has left me sour and hurt. I'd probably wouldn't read it again and I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. There are too many amazing writers out there with better stories.

ALTHOUGH
I did think the book was unique and it shocked me quite a bit on the turn this book took. I was thinking it would be wonderful if Women were in control of the world but it still would turn to shit anyway which is a shame. The authour is extremely intellegant and overall the book has it's moments of good.

Original story, pop style.
The power always becomes a dangerous weapons in the hands of evil.

The conclusions played out from its thought-provoking premise are better than the first half of the book would suggest, and the characters are well-drawn. The plot speeds along, but it really is this central premise that keeps the reader glued. I thought it would be a sort of things-would-be-better-with-the-shoe-on-the-other-foot kind of thing, or a take-that-you-men type of women's fiction, and I was far more fascinated by where it actually points. And I don't think it's because I'm a man. At least I hope not...
