I almost put this down at first, but I’m so glad I kept reading! Disturbing at times.

Reading this book was tough. The subject matter is dark and difficult. I agree with some of the other reviews that it doesn't necessarily feel like a mystery. There were a couple really good twists that I didn't necessarily anticipate. Overall, well done but sensitive subject.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The book covers a heavy topic. Which isn’t eluded to before getting considerably into the book. I found it rather hard to read at times.

Shemilt’s writing is so clear and exacting to create the perfect visualizations and are also so rich with emotion. You can feel and understand the motivations of each character and can see the lives in great detail of so many people in her thorough prose. Quick read that doesn’t feel rushed I can’t wait to read her other works.

I loved the pacing of this novel. I thought the story was meticulously planned and loved the addition of the "villain" towards the end to help give the reader a sense of justice/retribution. The sexual assault was awful, it was really hard to read and this book does not shy away from the heavy topics of sexual assault and abuse. I could feel the shame, horror, numbness, and then ultimately the relief at the end. This was a cathartic read for me.
