A show-stopping finale. The book got off to a slow start but by the third act, I was hooked. Chatine is wonderful and she probably needs a chiropractor from carrying the series on her back. Alouette steps into her own—and isn’t annoying for once. Marcellus is the white angsty protag that half of these men wish they were. Something that stood out to me in this book more than the others, though, were the light nods to a friendship between Chatine and Alouette. Nobody likes it when the two female protags are pitted against each other, so seeing their worry for one another’s safety was refreshing.

The author did a great job at wrapping up this book. I thought the first of the series was a bit slow but I enjoyed the characters which is why I kept reading and each book got a bit better.
