I don't mind the unrealism of none of the main characters ever dying - I find it kind of cheery, especially after slogging through finals. But the "let me describe in detail how completely impossible this situation is, so you can be duly impressed when the characters manage to come up with a way out of it" thing started to get old. I also got weary of how battle- and fight-centric the series has become; I miss the 2nd book, where Tavi et al were hanging out in the city, going to school. The most interesting part of this one was the icemen, the only new characters, and there wasn't enough of them. Boo.
I will, of course, read the 6th book when it comes out in November.

Interesting moments and good action, but despite what seem like major events, this book feels somewhat forgettable compared to others in the series

I felt this was the weakest of the Codex Alera books. Though I enjoyed it, I was frustrated that nothing was really resolved by this book. I like where the story is headed, but this volume felt incomplete.

I paused this series about a year ago, and I am no longer sure why.

Princeps' Fury has all the elements of fantasy that I enjoy most. The young untried general (although far more wetted now) and the dutiful mother, the sentient magic and swordmasters, as well as a daring quest and uncertain safety.

That being the case I can mildly predict the ending of the series, and it is not quite as dark as I would like. I will, however, certainly be reading to discover the end (maybe a little in the hopes that Butcher will surprise me).

Battle. Battle. Bit of plot exposition dialog. Repeat repeat repeat until epilogue.
