Darum geht’s:

I didn't expect to get sucked into this book as much I did. I loved the retelling of Hades/Persephone and Orpheus/Eurydice. It has a bit of Mythology and romance. The flashbacks kind of confused me a bit, but it really gave you a backstory on how Nikki got in this situation. I feel as if the author is building the story for a love triangle later on between Nikki, Jack and Cole. The ending had me rushing to get my hands on book 2! Like seriously, that ending!
Interesting take on Mythology and the afterlife. I don't think I have read anything like this before and it kept my interest. I plan to read the second one eventually, but am not in a rush.
I think this would have been better as at an adult level rather than a YA novel where the requirements include snotty teenage rivalry, miscommunication, and love triangle tropes.

the first half was slow, but I loved all the connections to mythology. the second half was very exciting and now I'm pretty excited to read the next one! also, loved the setting in Utah!
I really wanted to like this. The cover is gorgeous and the plot seemed somewhat interesting, but I forced myself to finish this.
Nikki was annoying as Hell, so damn whiny and void of emotion. Boo ho my boyfriend was "cheating" on me, so I don't want to feel anything anymore. Seriously???? How much more pathetic can you get? And the way she just took her punishment for running away for 6 months, like hell no, people my ass was wrapped up in a cocoon with som damn immortal feeding off of me in the Underworld, so no I will not take your punishment for "running away".
All the characters were so annoying, I found Cole remotely interesting, but Nikki was too damn wrapped up in Jack to even learn about Cole. Anyways i only gave this two stars because the last 30 pages were somewhat interesting, but if I do decide to pick up book two it won't be soon.

This book lived up to my expectations, but didn't necessarily surpass them. While the subject matter was interesting and original, it could be frustrating at times.
While Nikki was trying to figure out some puzzling thing, I was practically yelling at her, because the answer was so very obvious. And then Brodi, the sneaky author she is, proved me(and Nikki) wrong.
Just when you think you've got it all figure out, Brodi adds a new twist, or some unforseen predicament pops up, and pulls your feet out from beneath you. It takes a skilled author to trick you like that, and it was refreshing.
Nikki and Jack may be in love, but I have to agree with Cole in that I don't see it. And she's been to the Everneath and been changed irrevocably, yet somehow she managed to slip back into her old life almost perfectly. I would've rather seen her end up with Cole and have a little more conflict with returning, but maybe that's just me.
Their only seemed to be four characters in this book. Nikki comes back also to see her family, yet is only depicted with Tommy four times. Similarly, she was supposed to be in a close-knit relationship with her mother, yet only mentions her a handful of times.
The ending was of the WTH?! variety. It was just kind of like "Really? that's what you're gonna do?" Maybe it will lead into something good, but I was kind of annoyed, needless to say.
Overall, it was a great book, however I hope to see some improvements in the following books. Would I read/recommend? Of course, and I will be eagerly awaiting the time when I get to read what happens next.

I thought the cover was pretty and the premise sounded interesting. I couldn't put it down once I started it. While it is a semi sappy teen book, I enjoyed reading it! I'm kinda of sad that it is a trilogy...it could almost stand alone. Now I'm going to have to go find the others.
Once I saw this cover I knew I had to read the blurb which sounded really interesting. I love Greek mythology so any book related to any Greek myths I must have! There’s a kinda love triangle and I really liked it but for some reason I didn’t love in like some others I’ve read.
Nikki Beckett has just re-Surfaced after spending six months in the Everneath with Cole, the immortal who took her there. But now that Nikki has joined her friends and family she has six months to say goodbye before the tunnels take her to a dark place where she will no longer feel a thing, where she will help keep the Everneath running, like a battery. Nikki is trying hard to reconnect with her old life but there is one person she must reconnect with the most, Jack her boyfriend. He is the person who kept her alive all those months and she doesn’t want to lose him. But Cole is determined to have her join him in the Everneath as one of the Everliving, what Cole is, but she can’t leave yet. She needs help to find the answers she is looking for and Jack is willing to help. But when time is counting down what words do you use to tell someone goodbye...for Ever?
Once I finished this I thought about it for a little while. Overall the story was good and the characters were enjoyable but I felt it lacking in something. I don’t really think it was as much of a Greek retelling as some books I’ve read. It was changed too much for me but I enjoyed the new concept. I must admit that jumping between the past and present did confuse me to start with but I liked seeing the two parts.
Nikki was a great character, even if she is depressed at the beginning of the book but who wouldn’t be? But as time goes on in the book she gets stronger and looks to Jack for warmth and safety. Jack was sweet and would do anything to help her even if it gets him in trouble. And the fact that he never stopped loving her shows how strong their love really is. Cole on the other hand....I didn’t know what to think of him. Sometimes he was okay and other times I just wanted to smack him. Overall he wasn’t a nice character.
I loved the Idea of the story and using people as Forfeits to help the Everlivings, the immortals, survive. I liked what Brodi did by creating the Daughters of Persephone and I am intrigued as to what will happen later in the series. And that ending....I had tears in my eyes and it is such a big cliff-hanger. I will be on the look out for the next book. But hopefully next time it will stay in the present a lot more. It doesn’t take a lot to confuse me.
