I am such a sucker for books that rework Greek myth, and this one does a bang up job of it. I really liked Nikki as a protagonist, and how she was strong even when she was weak. And then when we meet Jack and found out how he'd been dealing with things . . . well true love never fails to win me over, let's just say that. I can't wait to dive into the next of these!
I wasn't sure about it in the beginning, but by the middle I was hooked. The ending ws a little predictable, but stil enjoyable. I will very likely read the second book, but not right away.

Review Attempt 1:
OMG! I LOVED THIS BOOK. I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! I WANT TO MARRY THIS BOOK! I WANT TO HAVE BABIES WITH THIS BOOK!
Review Attempt 2:
I started reading this book one Saturday morning in November and put it down that same November evening. I literally could NOT put this book down. Although to be fair to myself…I DID put a couple loads of laundry away between chapters.
I went into reading this story thinking it was a retelling of the Hades/Persephone myth. It’s not. Then I read a review that said it was a retelling of the Orpheus/Eurydice myth. After I Googled their story (Don’t laugh at me. Mythology is not my strong suit), I feel pretty confident in telling you that this is NOT a retelling of that myth either. There are elements of these myths in EVERNEATH, but you know what it really is? Brodi Ashton’s tale of AWESOMESAUCE. <-------Technical terminology.
Our heroine, Becks, makes a bad, bad, bad decision in a moment of overwhelming emotional pain. That decision is one that should have changed her life irrevocably, but the power of love presents a chance for Becks to return to her old life to right some wrongs and say goodbye to those she loves. For good.
Enter Jack Caputo.
Oh, Jack. Poor heartbroken, patient Jack who loves Becks so much that he is willing to put aside his own needs and questions just to make her feel comfortable when she returns to her life. Jack, who pines for Becks in a way that will make your heart swell and make you want to turn on a power ballad by Air Supply. (I’d like to apologize in advance before you click that link. You still love me, right?) The connection between these two is undeniable. (You hear that, Jaime? UN-DE-NIABLE) Their story is a love story that feels true and sincere. But it’s not perfect.
Enter Cole.
There’s another boy named Cole. He’s the bad boy. He’s alright, but he’s not Jack. THE END.
Alright, fine, there’s more to him. But you’ll have to visit Jaime over at Two Chicks to see why Cole is THE man. More on that in just a minute. Right now I want you all to go pre-order this book. I’m predicting HUGE THINGS for this book and you’ll want the goodness that is EVERNEATH as soon as possible. You can pre-order by clicking the links up there at the top of this blog post.
Not yet convinced? Try this on for size. Brodi shared an extra extended scene of EVERNEATH with Colleen Houck during the YA Scavenger Hunt a few weeks back. Click HERE to enjoy said scene. No spoilers are contained in this scene, but kissing is. RAWR!
But wait! Before you leave, we have a little giveaway for you. Brodi sent us one signed EVERNEATH bookmark (OK, it was two but I’m keeping one :) and we want YOU to have it. Comment on this post and include your email address. We’ll pick a random winner on Tuesday, December 20. Open internationally.
OK, NOW go check out Jaime’s review of EVERNEATH. She and I are posting dueling reviews today because for the first time ever, we find ourselves on opposite teams. She’s a Cole fan and I play for Team Jack. Check out her delicious review by clicking HERE. Then you should tweet her (@arnoldjaime13) and tell her how fantastic Jack is. Heck, tell Brodi, too! (@brodiashton) I'm sure they'd both be happy to hear from you.
One last thing: I’m real sorry about that Air Supply video. You know I didn’t really mean it, right? Here. To make up for that nasty reference, I give you this: A much better song by boys that are infinitely better looking. And from this century.

My Thoughts:
When I first discovered that this book was inspired in mythology he was put very fast on my wishlist and since is a recent release when can all know that he passed in front of a long TBR pile. And I don’t regret it, because he’s so good.
At first I was a little confused because the time is a bit different and we get to understand things better as the book move along. The chapters are separated as now and the past in the tunnels. But the story is very engaging and I couldn’t put it down.
I don’t blame Nikki for her actions, because Cole took advantage off a girl tormented by her feelings and lost of a beloved person. She was alone and he used some powers to mix her thoughts, so for that I don’t like him. but toward the end my view changed and I don’t know now what to think of him, maybe in the next book will know more, if he’s really bad or something else.
Jack is a sweet guy and he certainly has great sentences. And we also have to take in considerate that he never gave up on searching for Nikki, isn’t it sweet? Anyway I’ll read the next one when released, and I loved this peace of hell on earth.

This gorgeous cover immediately caught my attention and after reading the synopsis, I knew I had to read this debut novel. Everneath offers a modern day twist on the Greek myths Hades and Persephone and Orpheus and Eurydice. Words that come to mind after reading this are brilliant, sweet, tragic, unique, dark and fascinating.
The protagonist Nikki Beckett is seventeen and has spent a hundred years in Everneath as Cole’s forfeit. Everneath is a world between heaven and hell where everlivings feed off forfeits to keep their immortality. When she returns to Earth, only six months have passed. She longs to reconnect with her boyfriend Jack and her family. She only has six months before the underworld will claim her again. Cole is as an everliving and he returns to the surface to convince Nikki to stay with him and become an everliving. She must decide whether she will go to the tunnels and feed the everlivings or go with Cole and feed off others. Secretly, she longs to find a way to stay on the surface with Jack.
The tale that unfolds is beautifully written and goes back and forth between the year before Nikki went to Everneath and the six months before she has to return. This could have made the story awkward and confusing, but Ashton seamlessly takes us back and forth. She slowly reveals things, both frustrating and engaging the reader. The characters are wonderful, and my opinions of them changed as the story unfolded. My feelings for Cole and Jack were all over the place, and I love when a writer is able to make me see more than one side. At first I found Nikki depressing and morbid, but as her story was revealed I fell in love with this troubled girl. She is stronger than she thinks and capable of more love then she knows. I found myself turning the pages to find out if Nikki would return to Everneath and be lost to Jack forever. I figured out early on, how the ending would be. The author revealed clues and yet I continued reading hoping for another way out. The ending moved me and left me wanting more. I am anxiously awaiting the second book in this series. I still have a few unanswered questions and a ray of hope that there can be a happily ever after.

The concept looked really interesting and I found myself falling in love with Jack and I was so mad that she cheated on him. The justification just made me mad more than it let me understand why. It wasn't a good enough reason for me. Not to mention what Jack ended up doing for her at the end. I can not, she cheated on you with Noah. He was so right to be angry and if she is to be stuck in the Everneath she earned her place there but that just made me fall in love with Jack more. I am happy that she will try to get him in the next book because she has to. That has to be a life goal of hers. I don't get the appeal of Noah perosnally. Jack is who I am down for.
Actual rating 4.5
“Stay with me, Becks. Dream of me. I am ever yours.” Yeah, I cried.

I loved this book! I put off reading it for so long and I'm super mad at myself for it!
At first I was completely confused thinking surely there was a book before this one but no the story just starts off after a century in the Everneath which turns out to be six months on the surface (Earth). Needless to say there is some catching up that has to take place and while that can be a slow process in this case it wasn't. I was instantly hooked from chapter one and couldn't stop until the end and now I'm counting down the days till the next installment shows up on my doorstep. Nikki is such a strong and selfless main character, I was dying for her to tell Jack EVERYTHING. While I normally don't like love triangles this one wasn't too bad because I could sense the substance between Jack and Nikki whereas with Cole it was obvious he's a slimeball who's suffering from puppy love. Team Jack all the way!!
This was a super fast, suck you in, can't catch your breath read. I'm super anxious to start the next book!! Why couldn't I have predicted my love for this book and just buy the whole series?!
