Cried, which is to be expected from a historical fiction book set in WW2 but God, these characters and their relationships and their lives. It handles the topics of war and death so delicately. And the narrator! THE NARRATOR! I love the narrator so much, he's got such a strong personality and a beautiful way of explaining things wherein you'll still cry over the characters despite being given a warning about their demise. Will read again someday.

I've lost count of how many times I read this book in my teenage years. I loved it then but coming back to it more than 10 years later, it hits even more powerfully. The imagery is some of the most beautiful I have ever read. I will never stop recommending this one.
