Finished strong... the "journey" was up and down -inspiring and boring/pointless at times

It felt a lot like The Alchemist, which I am a fan of, but I was expecting something different. The story didn't start to develop until 1/3 of the way through. It's captivating enough to make you continue reading it, but there's not much suspense built into it and it was entirely predictable. I would have loved to know more about Karla's journey.

I liked the historical aspects of this book. I actually would have liked to read more about the French travelers' experiences in Paris in 1968. I don't know anything about the unrest and what happened then. Mostly is was a bit boring to me.

It really hooked me from the start and kept me on the edge throughout the book. The ending was very fitting and realistic, which raised the 4-star to 5 in my opinion.

As always, Paulo speaks a lot but says nothing. None of the myriad things he talked about was fully explored, no topic was even defined to start with. This book was meant to stand out, since it's largely autobiographic, but it ended up being another heap of inspirational aphorisms and cheap witticisms.
