Archer makes a 600 page book feel like a 200 page. He knows how to write a plot and keep his readers glued to the pages of his book. The plot was really good, suspenseful and carefully thought out- my only problem is that Archer could have get to the point a bit sooner.
A really nice read! I recommend.

It was an okay read. A lot compiled into one book, but the story of the main character is a powerful one.

I can honestly say I will not be reading another Jeffrey Archer book. This was an emotional roller coaster. Though the ending was happy-ish, there was so much true-to-life sadness in the in-between that I just don't think I can get through another one. Their son's story broke my heart. Charlie and Becky were much more accepting and forgiving than I am, for sure.

Archer is something of a guilty pleasure for me, an author I suspect I probably *shouldn't* like, but somehow I do all the same.

Aug 2009: I quite enjoy the epic family saga as a genre, and this is no exception. I should read more stuff set in London between the wars; I bet I'd find it interesting!

Oct 2012: Still enjoy it, but the unrelenting assholerey of all the Trenthams gets tiring. I always think Nigel's wife is going to transform him, but no.

A sentimental return to an old love.

I think I accidentally listened to an abridged version of this, but it didn't lessen my enjoyment.

The story was full of life and vividity. A story about one man who lived... I never expected to enjoy it as I did.

The WWI part, in my opinion, was the best, likely because it's an area of interest to me. Anyway, I thought it was brilliant, and I want to read more Jeffrey Archer in the future.
