The parts of this book that actually had a plot were very good. But the plot is only 25% of it. The rest is EXTREMELY boring facts about whales and whaling. I get that the reader needs some information to follow the story, but it should be sprinkled in the plot as needed, not DUMPED for tens of chapters at a time. This would not be a book I would usually read, I was forced to by a professor. Would not recommend.

I am so normal about this book
(Reasons you should read it: It has some of the best, most beautiful, most haunting prose you will ever read. It’s fucking hilarious. Most of the whale facts are inaccurate. It’s infuriating. It’s really gay. You’ll want to die for a guy literally named Starbuck.)

I just couldn’t get into the writing style. I’ll hopefully try it again someday when I’m not also dealing with my new job and a recent move!

I know Moby Dick is a classic but I've always been afraid of big books. But this was so well written, I enjoyed every single page.
