A lovely little story about a teenager discovering and embracing their trans identity, though I did find the ending a bit abrupt.

Sasha Masha is a story of teenage confusion and identity discovery. Alex (note: he/him pronouns are used throughout the book for this character) doesn't feel comfortable with who his is, but can't exactly pin down what it is that's wrong or missing. As he navigates a rocky relationship, confused parents, and some new queer friends, Alex starts to wonder if he's not exactly Alex: maybe he's actually Sasha Masha.

This is a quiet, short novel about coming to terms with sexuality and gender identity during adolescence. There's not much plot to it, but I think that works well with the fact that this story is more focused on internal processes. However, I really wanted more feel. Something about the writing style made it a bit difficult to understand how Sasha Masha was feeling--of course, one could easy guess how he was feeling, but I wanted more of his internal voice explaining what was going on in his head and heart. Overall though, this brief but realistic read had some wonderful characters and support for queer and trans teens.

I like reading books about queer trans youth. But honestly for this one the plot wasn't super interesting unless I totally missed something, it was very basic. The one super cute part was when we were first introduced to the name Sasha masha. That was adorable and I think it should've come much sooner

Edit: As I read other reviews, I saw that this book was intended to be a slice of life type of book, which makes so much more sense now! It was very cute but I just don't think this type of book is for me.

This was beautiful. I cried for the last few chapters. I will absolutely be re-reading this and highlighting passages. I was probably reading it a little too fast this first time around, but I know I will return to it.
